A federal judge in my city (Asheville) ruled this evening that my state’s ban on same-sex marriages is unconstitutional, making my state (North Carolina) the first in the American Deep South to both grant and recognize gay marriages. The first legal wedding between a lesbian couple in NC history was then promptly held on the steps of our city hall, as the Register of Deeds extended his office’s hours to commemorate the event (and avoid any legal challenges which might arise tomorrow).
Thank you, that is all.
The real problem with people fussing over Pluto all the time is it represents the priorities of the public - preserving traditions rather than accepting facts. The pursuit of science is about building a sustainable catalog of truths, and there is no advantage in altering truths to appease nostalgia.
